Acadia National Park

Acadia National Park is located in Maine on the rock- bound shore of Mount Desert Island. Originally inhabited by the Wabanaki people; the area includes mountains, an ocean shoreline, woodlands, and lakes.

In addition to Mount Desert Island, the park covers much of Ile au Haut, a small island southwest of Mount Desert Island and parts of Baker Island, also nearby. A portion of Schoodic Peninsula on the mainland is also part of the park. Total includes Acadia National Park 30,300 acres (47 square kilometers, or 123 km2) in Mount Desert Island.

Everywhere the ocean makes its presence felt, whether by sight, sound or smell. The National Park Service (NPS) protects this unique resource and provides a variety of visitor services.

More than 2 million people a year come to climb mostly by car the miles of 19th-century carriage roads leading to the stunning peaks and vistas of the island's mountains. Each curve of the road reveals breathtaking scenes of cliff and rock set amid the surrounding bays. Hikers and cyclists enjoy a less-crowded experience on off-road jaunts and trails.

Tourists are drawn to the Maine coast, raw, the story is the same documentation. The park is home to many species of flora and fauna and the largest mountain in the U.S. Atlantic coast.
